Decisions

I can't decide.  Both my boys have little knit rompers as their blessing outfits, which are adorable, but since they have their own (and they were both born in December, so their outfits were very warm) I would like this little guy to have is own, and be seasonal...aka: cooler than a thick, knit long-sleeved, long-legged outfit.

I started with the pattern for the first one pictured (obviously to be made in white) but after having put it away and pulling it out a few months later, didn't like the obvious seam in down the front,, or how the collar only went from shoulder seam to center front...

I like the second one, with the pin-tucks, but wouldn't add the bow thingy at the collar.  Could be mid-thigh or ankle length.

I also like the simplicity of the third one...but maybe it's too simple?  I think I would even do the little blue accents and trim, just to add something to it.

What do you all think?  I'm looking for something a little more dressy than a onesie, but I'm really not into the silk/satin tuxedo deal.  I really think babies should be dressed as babies, and tuxes on newborns are just too formal for my taste.

♥♥♥

Added at 10:42 pm:  After purchasing the two bottom patterns tonight, and asking Ryan which one he liked, he said he rather liked the second one, with the pin-tucks down the front!  We must be on the same page, because that is what I was leaning towards.  :)  The only downer:  The pin-tucks are FAKE!  FAKE I tell you!!!  The guide says to layer ribbons for the pin-tuck look, but I WILL NOT be cheated out of my fabulous pin-tucks!!!  So...after some patternwork this weekend, I will hopefully have a darling little white romper sans bow-tie & bonnet, and with REAL pin-tucks...for this little baby boy.  :)  Can't wait!!!  :)

Thank you all for your suggestions!  It was fun to see what you had to say.  :)

I vote the third one, with or without trim and with the pants shortened to the length of the first one.

PS It's not too simple. It's perfect, clean, and will draw the attention to baby boy. But you know me- clean lines and graphic as always!

the second one looks like Ben's blessing outfit, which parker and preston both wore. very classic.
the third one is cute, too.

I like the third one - remember, simple is timeless. I also like the idea of blue accents . . . you better get cracking lady - time's a tickin! (I'm almost finished with the blessing dress . . . after 40 hours of labor into this dress, let's hope its really a girl! I'll be posting pictures when it's finished!!!!) I hope you're feeling well:)

What a fun decision! I really think #2 is adorable but I agree to loose the bow to make it a little more boyish!! Have fun making it!

Um...it sounds like you guys went with the best choice (I can't even start to pretend to know what you're talking about). Unfortunately for us, and my lack of sewing abilities, we're probably going to settle for the old tux thing-unless a Wal-Mart sack is acceptable for a blessing (hey, it’s white). I’ve been thinking about you a lot, and hope you're doing as good as you can at this point. It will freak me out when you have this little guy, since I'm only 4 weeks behind you. It really hasn't sunk in that he’s going to be here SOON!
Anywho, were you able to get your toe nails painted? I would love to help you out if you still need it done, or taken off, or a new color added.
Take care!!!

So, I'm like, super late in voicing my opinion. But I also vote for the same one you choose - with the pin tucks. Good job on your part - adding REAL pin tucks! It is going to look AMAZING! Also, don't entirely throw out the little bow. When it's all completed, you might just like a little 5/8" satin ribbon tied in a bow right there.

BTW - I think this was the same pattern envelope I used for my James. But I didn't use that pattern. I was a bit less experienced when I sewed it. I used bleached white muslin on his outfit and it turned out fine. However, I think I will always be battling wrinkles on that outfit. AND, I wish I had the notion to spray it with some sort of stain - resistant stuff. Baby spit-up doesn't really come out all that great. BUT, it's 100% cotton, so... maybe if somebody works REALLY hard at it.

Lol, so should I feel guilty that I'm the only BYUI Home-ecker that didn't sew her own kid's blessing outfit? LOl, woops! We bought a cutesy silky romper with a bowtie for an obscene $30. I can't wait to see your pin tucks, and I'm glad your kiddos loved my recipe!

Hey, if you want to do the pintucks, you can make them in the fabric BEFORE you cut out the front piece. That way you don't have to do all the math to adjust the pattern...that always makes my brain hurt. :)

We are genious, because that is the plan!!! Pin tuck a large piece, THEN cut it out. :) you're AWESOME. :)
