Wives Bring Balance to Life

Thanks auntie Cathy for sharing this photo...I feel like this right now. Seriously. In more ways than one. I would like to lose some weight - especially so I can fit in the dres I need to wear for my Brother's wedding...but also becasue my sweet hubby is half my size, though taller...I'll post pictures of the dress later, but also because where would our husbands be without us? Up a creek - Up a tree, and in Ryan's case, he'd still be in a tree. Yes, you read that right.

To make a long story short, he and his mom wanted these trees gone from the backyard, and myself and his dad said, "Um - Why don't we hire someone to take these huge trees down?" Ryan replied, "I took down the other six trees just before we met - I am pretty confident I can do these, too." (I agree - he's buff, and very competent, I just don't think hacking at a tree with a chainsaw, a hatchet and some rope is the smartest idea...unless you're like fourteen and extremely bored.)

Tonight ended in his dad calling a company to come asap to take down a tree that Ryan has been working on for two days (today and all last Saturday) (It really isn't Ryan's fault - the tree was a beast to cut, the wood is hard and there's like 14 powerlines running through the yard - okay, five. But STILL!!!!) Anyways, he's way discouraged, as is his mom, but his dad and I are quite relieved to say the least, that professionals, with the right tools, will be able to take the rest of the trees down...if the storm tonight doesn't beat them to it.

Maybe it's too late at night...Everything is funny!

Alright - confession - I really liked Stephanie Meyer's Vampire books - I got into them, and liked the first one the best.

I'm not quite sure I'm 'digging' THE HOST. What do you think? I'm trying really hard to understand it - and like it - but I'm just not into it. Anyone else feel this way?

She Said Yes!

So, it's official! My little brother is engaged to be married! WOO-HOO!! I got these picture from facebook (scary how much you can find on the internet!) and I think they are just adorable! This picture was taken a while ago, while Keith was at Tricia's house in San Diego. We are so excited to have her be part of our family! (and looking forward to a nice family vacation in August to the San Diego Temple & Sea World!)

Any suggestions for vacationing in or near San Diego now being taken...any good places to stay at a reasonable rate? What MUST we see? Tanner will be almost three, and Taylor will be about 9 months...Double stroller a must? Should we skip Disney and just head to the San Diego Zoo? Maybe a handcart trek to Cali, since the gas prices are so ridiculous?! Guess I'd better get packing, cause it's going to take a while for this little walk!

It comes in Threes

So we went to my parents house for the weekend, kind of, and Tanner woke up Monday morning with terribly gross, disgusting goobery eyes - I at first thought he had a runny nose and had wiped it everywhere, but then noticed the goop was coming from his eyes! Allergies? Infection? Too much crying because of Bedtime? NOPE! PINK EYE. Nasty, nasty pinkeye. So, anybody who was around us this weekend, please wash your hands, and don't touch your faces unless you have surgical gloves on because I'm pretty sure you don't want to pay the $79.99 for eye drops (okay, we're poor college students, why don't they just say, "here's the generic stuff"?). Later to find out from Stevie, you can get the same stuff for like less than $20...Go figure.

What's with the bank runnig out of suckers the day I tell Tanner he can have one if he's good (then he's good and there's no suckers when I go to make a diposit or withdrawl....What gives?)

I was on my way to Rexburg this morning to pick up my contacts (I'm so stinking excited to have contacts - I've been wearing my glasses for over a year! - that I cannot wear unless I am for sure that I don't have this pink-eye.) and got a citation...for $75!!! Man! I can't take this! I was going 63 (speed limit is 65) because I was watching my MPG because gas costs two arms and a leg, and then sped up for like 100 yards to pass a really slow car before the construction and was going below the construction speed limit before I got to that sign, and I still was pulled over. "Why were you passing that red car?" the officer asked. I replied, "because they were going 50, and I have places to be this morning and I didn't want to follow them going 50 all the way to Rexburg." "May I have your license and registration, please?" he said. I handed him a few papers from the jocky box and my license and said to him, "I've only been pulled over once in my entire life, and I think these are the right papers...what do you think?" What a disaster!!!! How embarrassing! I'm pretty ticked because this was like THE ONLY time I wasn't speeding and known it!!! PURELY ACCIDENTAL (and both my kids are screaming in the back seat). Some pitty from the officer? Are you kidding me? "Let's see how many mommys we can frustrate today, shal we?" Maybe that's too harsh, and I know the nice officer wasn't really trying to do that, but given the circumstances.....I guess I'll pay the consequence.

What's Next?

(I know there are a lot worse things that I could be blessed with, but these two things in particular have really discouraged me today. Humph. I will post 'happy thoughts' next time. Thanks for reading my vent. There.)

~~~THE QUILT~~~

Isn't she cute! (and talented and smart - Valedictorian - and just awesome!) She has definately taught me a thing or two or three (really, she is such an awesome example to me!).

My favorite part - the BACK! :)
If you notice, there's a white square in the corner - it's a pocket! I made it to put her graduation card into, but was totally wiped out after I finished it at 3 in the morning, so I didn't make a card or get any fun suprizes put in it. The picture was actually taken from the top, but the pocket is actually in the bottom corner of the back of the quilt when it's hanging up. How fun is that!

Check, Check, and Check!

• Quilt completed Monday morning at 3 am. Too tired to get a pictures - either check Stephanie's blog for one, if she's updated it, or wait till I get back Friday an have taken some pictures of it...
  
• Stephanie's Graduation announcements are in the mail. After two miserable hours of trying to get Inkley's to print them off, etc, etc, etc, we finally went to Staples, and they printed them let us cut them and stuff them and stamp them..."That was Easy!" (It's like when we went shopping for her graduation dress, we knew we would find something at Dillards, but thought we'd try out Kohls, the Dress barn etc, etc, etc, and you know what? We ended up at Dillards after three hours and found a dress in ten minutes. That's the way it goes!
  

• Accompaniment piece for Steph's Senior Violin Recital is comming along....finally! I knew if I could get in some quality practice time without worrying about the neighbors below, I'd be on my way...they moved out. So, we're good...Check!

I think I may be getting caught up! Now I just need to get the house picked up, floors washed, bathroom cleaned, laundry folded, garden planned (and seeds bought), car vacuumed out, and a few meals planned and shopped for, and I'll be back on top again!

Seriously though, I feel really good about all that I accomplished this weekend...it just took a few more days than I thought it would. But, it's done, so I 'check-marked' it off!!!!!

Indeed Crazy

Who was I kidding - to think I could machine quilt a wallhanging, make graduation announcements and polish an accompaniment song all in one day?????

If it's an honest effort, don't you think Heavenly Father would let us squeeze a few more hours at the end of the day?

:) Maybe I'll finish that quilt tonight. Wish me luck!

Call Me Crazy...

For the first time in a long time, I felt utterly sick as I went to bed last night. No, I am NOT pregnant (and don't plan to be for a year, or two, or three :)). It might be because I ate some yummy chocolate around 10 - It might be because I am tired of fighting at bedtime (with Tanner) - It might be because I stayed up until 1:50ish, watching "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" online WHILE machine quilting my little sister's quilt...Yeah, I think that's it. I don't think it helped that for the past three nights Ryan and I stayed up to work on HIS homework. I was only proofing, fixing, and proofing some final papers...while he worked on final projects. I know that there is much worse comming, come fall semester. Phew! I'm glad that today is Friday, and that tomorrow is Saturday, and that I'm staying up till I finish this quilt, come heck or high water!!! :)

Really though, I think I might be crazy - self diagnosed, obviously, but crazy. I told my sister, Stephanie that I'd have her quilt (wall hanging, only 36 x 60 large) done for her on Saturday!!! If you're like me, you like crunch time. I really don't mind - it's been fun having quiet time while everyone else is asleep - to do what I deem therapeutic - relaxing - and ahhhhhh (sigh). But, I love doing it!!! There's nothing like pressing fabric, breathing in basting spray (don't worry, I opened the front door and allowed cross ventilation, and covered my face with my shirt...hope it's not toxic!) and hearing the quiet humm of the machine. Did I mention that I love it?

I will post a picture (hopefully Saturday morning) of this beautiful piece of art! Steph did a fantastic job of piecing it, and it's just, well, something she'll hang first thing when she finds a 'permanent' home after college. Honestly, this lovely collection of fabric, so intricately put together, will lay folded carefully in her hopechest until she is either married, or in her 'own place'. So much fun to look forward do!
