Let me explain.
There are many factors leading up to my desire to be more fit.
- The fact that many of my blogging friends are posting about recent 5K runs or some kind of running achievement (P.S. Congratulations to you all!)
- The fact that my dear friend inspired me by one of her very recent posts with a letter from her body :)
- The fact that my administrative assistant (and we've become good friends as well) and her husband are running a 5K this weekend together in honor of a great community member who passed away in a tragic Avalanche/Snowmobile accident and I'm jealous that she's in shape to do it
- The fact that I can see the nurse writing down my weight every time I go to donate plasma and it's on a steady rise
- The fact that my little brother is coming home from his mission in less than two months, and I'd like to look nice for a hopeful family picture to take place around that time (did that make any sense???)
- The fact that my current weight is just one pound less than what I weighed when I was full-term with Tanner
- The fact that my baby is a year and a half old, and I have lost and put back on the weight
- The fact that my pants are extremely tight...to the point that I dread getting dressed each morning
- The fact that I'm NOT pregnant, so I have NO excuse to eat the way I am
- The fact that my body deserves to be taken care of, just like the laundry, the dishes, my kids or my husband (and not in that order, but sometimes that IS the order...don't judge me!)
So, all of you who have inspired me...let it be known that my thighs are burning, much like a Chicken's, my calves are on fire, and it took a full hour for my face to turn from purple to a relatively normal color. My shoulders and neck are stiff, and I wasn't even pushing the stroller...I handed it off to Ryan as soon as my 'brisk 5 minute warm-up walk' was complete.
What routine am I doing??? Glad you should ask. The site is HERE. I am supposed to start out with that warm-up walk, then alternate 60 seconds jogging with 90 seconds walking, for 20 minutes. TWENTY WHOLE MINUTES!!! My body started to protest after about 5. No joke.
Well, Ryan and the kids were troopers, and might I say I made it the entire 20 minutes, and then had to walk for another 30 so my legs wouldn't cramp up and cripple me. This is sure going to be an adventure!
Well, Happy 200th post to ME! And Happy Exercising as well...if any of you have ANY suggestions or would like to take a look at that site (all you runners) and tell me if it's legitimate, if I'm in for it or if you have a better idea (remember I'm going from couch to hopefully enjoying some physical exercise), PLEASE leave me a comment or email me or call me and let me know!!!
I used to get painful shinsplints in high school, the one semester I ran track, so I'm praying I DO NOT get them...any suggestions in THAT department???

I use to get shinsplints too when I ran track in high school. The best thing you can do is just make sure you stretch them!
YOU CAN DO IT! I REALLY dislike running. I REALLY understand how you feel. I have also used that site and think that it's wonderful, so keep at it! It's such an amazing thing to see your progress. Keep going! Even though running is probably one of my least favorite exercises, there are many positives to it. It's free. It's effective. It's free. :) In fact, I'm sitting in my exercise clothes right now. Ready to go as soon as I finish reading blogs! :) Go Deanna Go!!!
One thing that is nice about running is you don't have to run for to long for it to to some good. Normally I have only about 10 to 15 minutes to run each day, but that is enough to keep me in OK shape. Maybe when you feel more comfortable running we could go running together. Oh and my suggestion for shinsplints is trying to run on the grass more, lots of streching and lots of Icy Hot. (In high school Icy Hot was my best friend.)
Wow, go you! I'm with you on the hating to run thing. Keep with it!
Good luck with your running! I think that runs is awesome! I hate running with a passion and much rather bike or anything else! Good luck and you can do it!
I know how you feel! my sister in-laws both just ran 1/2 marathons and on our family vacation they all went running together in the mornings. They invited me, but there was no way I would keep up. I think I'll have to try that training site too! Thanks
Hey there,
I haven't been ignoring you, I have just put the blogging world on hold for a while.
Congrats on exercising again, the beginning is always the worst, but once you get into it, you will start to like it...hopefully.
As for shin splints, stretch and ice. Thats about all you can do.
Good luck! Your blog is so cute, I love checking up on you guys. Keep the posts coming!
Holy BATS! That's an aggressive starting routine. My plan was to run 1 minute, walk 5 minutes (Over about 30 minutes). Then you slowly up your run time and decrease you walk time. I'm just BARELY running 4 walking 2 1/2. (And near the end of the run time I think I'm going to throw up.) My sister wants me to do the 5K with her this weekend, but I'm SCARED TO DEATH!! I tried doing 3 miles and it took me 45 minutes. (Want to do it with me?) I so don't want to be the last one walking in. And I can promise, I'll be walking that last leg.
As for shin splints, (and you know how bad I was having them), yes stretch before and after the run. I do most of it after when my muscles are all warmed up. And then whenever you think about it during the day, walk on your heels w/o letting your toes touch the ground. (It strengthens the front leg muscle.) Do it with your toes facing foward, in towards each other, and out like a duck, (I'm warning you, the in towards each other hurts like a .... but it has really helped me.
Wow...you are amazing! I definitely need to take heed and do something for myself. I keep telling myself that I need to get some sort of exercise, but I haven't started yet. I HATE RUNNING! GO DEANNA!
i used that same site when i did my 5k last summer...no worries, the first day i really died too...then i wanted to cry because reading the first day it sounded so easy, but i was so out of shape. it gets easier i promise and you start to feel proud of yourself after each run, not like you want to die! way to go deanna!!!
Once you start it gets easier and soon you will be addicted. The only part that stinks is it feels like you have to start from scratch after each kid. LOL. So here I go again. Good luck to us both ;)
Way to go! I think you are amazing and I too need to get out and excercise I just like having projects to do more. So sad but one day I shall conquer. Everyone is on the running bandwagon I guess it is high time i joined too oh peer pressure what to do!
I really need to start excercising more. In fact, let Ryan know that the reason i didn't go this morning was because i was sleeping in!!! oh my, now i feel REALLY lazy!
Just stumbled on your blog...hope you don't mind if I offer my two cents! Since it looks like you have plenty of friends you should start a blog/health competition...they're really fun and super motivating. I posted instructions on how to start one on my blog...www.oneshetwoshe.com. You will likely have to look under the "Fitness" or "Exercise" label to get to it.
Cute little family you have!
