Today marks Tanner's 4th birthday. My how time has flown by! Seems not too long ago we were in the middle of finals when Ryan dropped me off at Madison Memorial to be induced, and would come 'check' on me between projects and papers and tests... I was just glad he was there for the birth of our first baby, who turned out to be a boy....which we also suspected. We didn't find out the gender, and I was pretty sure. Glad those motherly instincts were right, because our home would just not be the same without his fireball energy and hilariousness. He's one silly boy, and loving, forgiving, and ever-learning. I tell ya, he's like a sponge. He is soaking up every little thing.
Today I have some fun pictures that catch his fun personality...
A 'birthday' book, from Grandma and Grandpa...which I cried through the first time I read it....The Christmas Sweater is a darling book. Tonight Tanner said to me, "Mom, I have a wot of good books. I wike them and I wike to read wit you." ...melt my heart....even though it was torture to stop in the middle of sentences every few minutes to answer the million questions he always asks!
Our birthday grump...I can see many years ahead, of birthday rivalry. *sigh*
I dream of someday making homemade birthday cakes, NOT from box mixes. But let's face it...they're easier...they don't taste as good, but easier. These birthday cones were sweet, and had sweet surprises inside; in the bottom of each was a handful of skittles...then the top was stuffed with a cupcake and frosted. Tanner requested blue and pink birthday cake, so I did a strawberry cake and blue frosting....It's your day, son, so there you go!
And to make up for the disasterous Pepperming Chocolate Cake, I made a Pomegranate Cheesecake (Thanks Alisha!). Ryan said it was good, and everyone else seemed to like it. It wasn't too bad. My FIRST homemade cheesecake ever, and 3 hours later (it was quite labor intensive, especially for a Sunday Morning), but I guess it was okay.
Happy 4th Birthday, Tanner!!!

***On a side note, hand-me-downs are great....but because both boys were born in December, I couldn't distinguish years of pictures for Taylor had on THE SAME CLOTHES as Tanner, two years earlier! Too funny....What can I say....make it do, wear it out, use it up, or go without!

Happy Birthday! When does your December slow down?! Seriously! LOL. And at least you still make them birthday cake. Last year I opened a bag of m&m's for Anna. In my defense it is because she doesn't like cake/her egg allergy ;)
my goodness, your boys are so very cute! It doesn't seem that long ago that you and I had classes together and you were getting engaged! And now you have a FOUR year old! Great job, D!
So you're pretty much the cutest mom ever! I loved the cupcakes! And Tanner is the cutest boy ever! He's hilarious! Looks like birthday #4 was a success!
happy birthday to the poulsen clan! We have missed seeing you guys....
You are my kindred spirit when it comes to LOTS to celebrate in December! I have many pics to post, and I'm so behind. (sigh)
I love your pictures, Deanna! You grab the best shots. Love this cupcake/cone idea! So creative!
Hope things slow down soon for you OR heck, just enjoy the December roller coaster ride! LOL
Happy birthday Tanner! He is such an adorable little boy! He always makes me laugh.
