Our stay in the hospital with Kortlen was longer than expected.
Because I had high glucose levels, Kortlen's body compensated by producing extra insulin. He was born with a bit of a larger heart and the little tuby thing that usually closes up within a few breaths following birth didn't completely close. In turn, Kortlen weighed 9 lbs 4 ounces, has a heart murmur that he'll grow out of, and had the oxygen to help force his lungs to do the work they are supposed to do. He didn't spend any time in my room, because of all the monitoring. This enabled me to get some rest (as much as one can get when having to walk down to the NICU every 3 hours, spending an hour there, and hobbling back to my room), and more excitingly, got Kortlen and I both on a schedule!
I was trying to encourage some daddy-son bonding time. :) I love to see my big tall man holding our teeny-tiny sons. He puts on a tough shell, but I think his heart melted a bit this day.
I spent a lot of hours in the NICU with Kortlen, trying to nurse, and just trying to stay posted. We had the most wonderful nurses!
After two days, Kortlen was doing well enough to be 'promoted' to the upstairs NICU, apparently called "Heaven" because of the more relaxed atmosphere and more space. I got more exercise in the three days I stayed at the hospital than I did all my pregnancy, just because of going back and forth from my room to see see my baby!
By day three, Ryan and a dear friend gave Kortlen a sweet priesthood blessing, and his doctor said he was well enough to go home the following day; four days earlier than expected. I am grateful for the healing power of the priesthood, and to wonderful staff and doctors who cared for us!
Here's a picture of our little guy ready to come home...
So we came home on Sunday, and were able to relax a little bit. Thanks to my mom, Kortlen and Ryan and I were able to get some much needed rest before big brothers came home! My mom was gracious and kept the boys for a week.
When they did get home, they were SO excited to meet their new little brother!
We are so blessed to have three of the most beautiful boys! I am excited to see how life unfolds for us...Here comes more adventures!

So glad to hear he got well quick!! What a cute little guy. He looks like your other boys. I'm glad you both healed up and made it home with out to lengthy of a stay in the Hospital. They are so strong for how little they are. So amazing. Congratulations again!!
Thank heavens for the Priesthood! What a cutie and I LOVE the pics of your little boys with him...so cute!
He is so cute! I am glad he is ok. What an entry into this world! Congrats.
So glad everything worked out! The priesthood is amazing and I am so thankful for it as well! You're right about the adventures you will have! Boys are way fun!
Glad you guys are all feeling better and are home. I did the NICU thing with Lily except I came home before her and she ate every two hours. Good thing we lived close to the hospital! The pics of Tanner and Taylor holding Kortlen are precious!
That little picture of him going home looks a LOT like Tanner to me. Such a little cutie and I'm so glad that he's going to strong and healthy!
Oh my goodness! I didn't know about this! I'm glad you're all home now and things are good. He is so adorable! I hope you are adjusting at home now, too, with all three boys.
I just checked, and I can get to my blog. Let me know if you still can't get into it!
I probably shouldn't have read your birthing post (ha)-maybe it's a little too soon for me. I already told my doctor, "drugs, lots and lots of drugs." However, I really do commend you for going all natural; I think our female ancestors are applauding you right now. You are quite the woman!
Those pictures of all your boys with new baby brother are so sweet. I'm so relieved that everyone is doing well. Kortlen is such a beautiful baby. Congrats again! I love this time, when there are so many exciting changes to the family. Then suddenly we get back into the swing of things, and everyone and everything feels like it has been a part of the family all along.
Congratulations, Deanna! He is so precious--I love his little kisser :) The picture of him with his dad is beautiful...priceless. Glad everything is going okay. Hang in there! You're so blessed!
Holy Tamoly! I can't believe how big he looks in his carseat. Dax hardly was big enough to go home in it. I do have a pretty cute cousin tho! Good job guys!
