Friday, Ryan loaded the kids and their 'stuff' in the car for a day-trip to my parents' house. They needed some work done on their computer before Stephanie goes off to college. They had a blast with Gramma and Papa, Tanner loving the attention he got has he helped my mom pickle and bottle beans. He's a good little snapper!
Myself and one secretary and one other County Chair were in the office - usually there's about seven if not more there - and Wayne, the County Chair had brought in six grocery bags of apricots from his tree...so guess who was lucky to take them home? Me and Cheryl, the secretary. I tried leaving work with only one bag, but Cherly insisted I take them, because otherwise they'd go bad over the weekend. I was way excited to do apricots, untill I got going and was reminded of all the earwigs that come with it...ewwe!
Back to story one (to connect the two stories) - Ryan ended up staying with my family until bedtime (so the boys would be asleep when he got home...and it was so nice!) and so after work, I sat down to unwind, read a book, had a nap, and then at seven decided to start in on the apricots.
Fourteen pints (because it would take us a week or two to get through a quart) of Apricots and four pints of jam later:
Can you see the huge container I have left? I am not quite done yet, but those ones were a little 'greenish' and so I'll wait until tonight or Monday to do about 8 more pints - but I think I'll do half pints - 16 of em!
Out of necessity I did apricots, and I'm quite pleased with the way they turned out! (I kept hearing them pop and had to call my mom - in tears none the less - because I thought they hadn't sealed...HAH! The popping means they did seal! (It must have been a REALLY long day at work.)
Thank you mom, for holding my hand through this! I only called her a dozen times...what about this, what about that. Kinda' pathetic since I'd been telling people all day how to do this and how to bottle that...I just started second-guessing myself and couldn't stop!

Way to go! They are just beautiful!
Good girl!! Working all day and then putting up apricots and apricot jam!! Plus the blog with pics. You are a real go-getter. See how it all works out?? Love to you all - Aunt Carolyn
i am so impressed with your canning skills! i can say that i have never canned by myself, and wouldn't know the first thing to do...i probably should learn that! we have an apricot tree...but don't even eat the fruit..i'm not sure if it's even good or not...probably another thing i should check...hmm maybe you'll inspire me...
They are wonderful. I curse canning untill i see it sitting on my shelf and think what an accomplishment.
By the way this is Camille Cope. Aunt Loeen granddaughter. I found you through Angies blog. It is fun to stay connected like this.
I also did 32 pints of salsa today. But i didn't have to do it after I worked all day. What a very dying trade that these crandall women have passed onto us. good luck and know I know who to email when I have a canning questions and can't get ahold of my mom
Maybe you should post how to do canning (since you have all this free time now..oh wait). It all looks delicious. I have never done it before because I always stole it from Grandma's. I can't do that anymore so I need to start. You inspre me!
I am in awe of your skills! Plus, if you are working and then canning I guess I have no excuse. My Grandma Wiley always cans peaches and gives them to us for Christmas-which I love. But I guess at some point I need to learn how. Good job!
way to go!! I don't know how to can, but when I have to, out of necessity, I will call upon you for help...or should I call your mom =) hehe, have fun being busy!
I always knew you were talented, but canning is superior talent in my eyes... they look yummy!
I'm impressed Deanna! That is a ton of work. It looks delicious though. You and Ryan seem to be a really good team!! Go Poulsens!
You're so awesome Deanna! It looks like you are the best mom/homemaker since I don't know when. :) And did you see that I finally took the courage you gave me and decorated my blog? I just kept remembering how easy you said it was. :) Thanks for support and cute comments all of the time! Love ya!
Hey Betty!:) Looks so yummy! Canning is so much fun! I had my first experience with peaches about 2 months ago. Love your cute family, they are growing up so big.
Deanna, what a beautiful job you've done with those apricots! They look STUNNING in those bottles! Congratulations...enjoy them all year long!
Haha, I do that all the time (second guess myself & call my mom). Looks very tasty!
