I survived. I made it out alive, without any incidence, but it's only the first day!
After getting up at 5 am to donate plasma, I headed into work to roll up my sleeves and dig in to our county fair. By 11 am, my straightened hair had curled on the bottom layer because of all the groady sweat...I must have been working hard or something (more likely, running laps :P)
Twenty-five percent of my job deals with 4-H. If you don't know what that is, check HERE.
I was honestly a bit nervous taking the job last year and knowing that I'd have to do a lot with 4-H just because I didn't really excel in FFA (honestly, I was just along for the ride and the cute boys) and I never did 4-H as a kid (read two posts ago...we did other things, like "increasing our talents"). It is really a neat program...
However, more of my life experiences than just being raised on a cattle ranch helped me to be a good leader and enjoy what I do.
Maybe by the end of my week of 12-hours in an arena and barns I'll have time for some pictures and some "tails"...meanwhile, check out the schedule by following the link HERE.
You might be suprized to know that the county fair is more than just cows and cookies...to see and experience for yourself, stop on in if you're in the area! It's free (and if you DO get food, it's TOTALLY worth the few bucks...like the giant cup of nachos for a dollar...yeah, that was dinner...and I couldn't eat it all). It's located behind the Tautphus Zoo, at 2925 Rollandet. You can't miss it!

You're the best extension agent EVER!
I'm so glad that you posted this because I'm totally going to bring my girls over today! I LOVE FAIRS!! Hopefully we'll see you there! :)
I went to my first County Fair here in Coos County. TEN dollars a person over the age of 12. Rides were about $4 each. Rip off. However, the kids had fun with the animals and the food was good, although expensive. It would have been lots more fun seeing the fair there instead of here. sigh. I miss Idaho.
how fun! i miss county fairs! i don't think we have them around here. maybe they do, and i just don't know about it. i should probably find out, huh?
I just love reading your blog and it has been far too long. I finally am getting back to it after a month and it sounds as if you have been really busy. :)
I hope you know how amazing you really are!
I think the food is my favorite part about fairs. I think it neat you are involved in that stuff. I have heard the omnivores dilemma is amazing. I started it a couple years ago and never finished it. Maybe I should get it on C.D. also! We may be coming up around Reeds homecoming. If we make it up hopefully you will be there we would love to see you guys!!
Ah-- county fairs and summer. Doesn't get any more Americana than that.
We missed ours this year, but have plans to hit it next year!
man, i wish our fairs were free and nachos were only a buck!! i'd be all over that. i'm excited to hear your 'tails'
