As snow was lightly fluttering to the ground this morning, I made an executive decision...I'm picking my tomatoes today, come winter or high water, and making Johnny Relish...with my mom. I kindly offered her kitchen to do the dirty deed, and will bring all the produce, spices, pots and pans...She is 'so excited', according to my dad...we'll see how excited she is tomorrow night when I show up with two laundry baskets full of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, vinegar, tumeric, cloves, a canner and a few cases of jars (just a few, mind you!).
I am THE ONLY ONE in my house hold (of Ryan and our sons) who will eat relish, but my family loves it...and it's Keith's birthday on Friday, so I figure after spending some hard-earned cash on some too-expensive produce, he should have a nice little gift to return home to in Provo.
Tricia - if you're reading this, we're going to really initiate you to canning this weekend! The only thing worse (read: more work) than relish is salsa, and we'll spare you that treat!
Keep a lookout for some photo's and a story of our Johnny Relish! Yumm!
And I thought I was done canning...HA! Maybe this is like parenting...it's never ending! Ahhhh! I'm melting! I'm mmm-eee-lll-t-ing!

Snow?! Wow! It's already gotten cold here but not THAT cold!
Enjoy your Johnny Relish! I love to make it because the smell of it cooking on the stove reminds me of my mother and home and falltime! I don't eat much of it except it's a must on hot dogs and hamburgers. I make it for dad now that mom is gone. I've gotta go see how much I have left...might have to make a batch of it myself this year!
Sounds like you had a blast in the kitchen! Lots of good memories!
You are the most domestic and wonderful woman I have ever met! :) Thanks for the help on getting my blog started...I still think I can work on it, but oh well. :) One of these days I need to get with you and have some help being a little more domestic around my house...I think I'm slowly killing Wes. :)
My sister is part of a canning co-op and she has been busy busy canning just like you. I'm being a slacker this year. No canning, can you believe it? I think I'm gunna make some applesauce and freeze it though.
Your family pictures are great! You did such a good job. I also think you did a great job on the temple picture. I like the after one a lot.
Ah yes. My mom really only cans jam and salsa and I avoid her house at all costs on salsa canning days for two reasons.
#1 Somehow I will be forced to help ;)
#2 The smell is in clothes for good and in your hair for days I swear!
Have fun with your relish. I am with the boys in your fam - bleh!
What a great hard worker you are, Deanna! That's great! And I had to laugh out loud at your "I'm me--eeeltting! haha!
Good luck!
Can't wait to see the primary medals. Should be lots of fun. I also talked to Angela about Patty singing, she said she wants all the teachers to do it. She's printing up programs and song words for all the teachers, so it should be fine. Let me know if you need help with anything.
