I found some cheap 69 cent eggs at Robert's that were already papermache'd and painted, and were cheaper than the unfinished eggs. I figured I could just cover them with the paper of my choice...
After an hour and a half of crumpling paper, ripping paper, modpodging and cleaning up, this is what I ended up with:
I had a vase full of dried rose buds, but it was smelling musty and getting dusty so I trashed the rose buds (sorry hon...I know you love me, but I can't keep them forever) and washed out the vase. I think it needs some of that dried pete mossy stuff under and maybe around the eggs?
I think the most fun part was pulling the dried modpodge from my hands like I was in 2nd grade. :)
Note to self: take off all rings, wedding ring included, before attempting to clue any spherical object, particularly eggs!
How I did it:
(Sorry, I didn't take any pictures because my hands were COVERED!)
- I took 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper (mine was double sided and really thick...a bit hard to work with) and cut a 12 x 4 inch strip of each of the selected papers.
- Then I crumpled gently then squished it really hard to make any creases stay. Basically, I was just trying to make the paper pliable, to go around curved surfaces.
- I tore 5 smaller strips, the short way, so they were about 1 1/2 x 4 inches, then tore the even shorter ends so it looked like a really oblong egg shaper.
- It was easier to modpodge the BACK of the paper piece, let it soak just while I applied modpodge to the egg, then using one hand, hold the top and bottom of the paper in place on the top and bottom of the egg while I used the other hand to massage the paper into crinkles and adhere to the egg.
- I then continued layering the pieces around the egg.
There is obviously more than one way to do this...and obviously a variety of looks you could achieve...I was just going for the patterned, yet crinkled effect.
They could probably use another coat of modpodge, or even a clear coat, but I had already cleaned up my mess.
I bet this would work with wooden, or even plastic eggs. Now I have an Easter/Spring decoration that wasn't my mom's. LOL!

I love the eggs! I particularly like the paper choice:)
I'm feeling great - I still feel like June is forever away, but at least I can function like a normal person!
YES - preggos can do stroller bootcamp - I still go everyday . . . I just take it a bit easier:) It's year-round; and right now its Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 9AM in Apple Athletic Club. You don't have to be a member to go, its $30 a month just for Stroller Class. We're hoping to get back outside in May; and in June, we're going back to our Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule. You should come Deanna! I would love to see you more:) Plus - its a great place to let the kids get some energy out in the winters!
How are YOU feeling? And when does Barbara come back? Did you ever sign up for a class? I'm still looking for another one to do . . . can't decide if I want to squeeze it in now, or wait until after baby:) . . . decisions, decisions!

Adorable. Maybe even I could do this! So if you didn't use wooden eggs, what were they made of?
Kira, These ones were like a paper mache, but finished in the store...they could have been foam, I'm not sure...I KNOW you could do it. My boys could do it...it's super easy, and really, you just do what you want. :)
