Tub Toys

Do you let your kids play with toys in the tub?  At our house we have a mesh bag suctioned to the side of the shower, which is home to a handful of sharks, sea animals, and two tug boats.  There's also a cup or two for the boys to play with, and these toys are designated only for the tub.
I'll admit, I've NEVER sanitized these toys after a bath unless there were large, floating logs in the bathwater.  THAT constituted a good, deep Clorox bath in my mind and I was happy to comply.

I don't consider myself a germaphobe, but this video totally grossed me out.  I dare you to click on the link to see what is lurking inside of your bathtoys.  I was not completely suprized, as I figured some moisture was in the toys (after all, they all have holes that we love squirting water from), but I never imagined the grossness inside could be hazardous.

the TODAY'S show research and blurp on tub boys

Part of me wants to go slice into those tub toys and see if there really is anything inside, and then again, I think I'm just going to throw them away, and look for something else, that won't get grody inside!

Our tub boys...EXPOSED!!!!!
Yes, I caved.  I cut one open.  I couldn't justify throwing them all away unless at least one looked as gross as in the movie...

ewweeeeee...gross.  They're all gone.

Over the years I've been throwing out our toys that have the "squirty hole" in them. As soon as I saw that they got that sludge in them, out they would go. I just finished throwing out the rest of them when they moved. As far as other bath toys, the truth is I don't care if the kids play with them. I clean them every few months in the dishwasher but that's it. Germs don't scare me much.

Yeah, didn't watch the video, but I've seen a few bath toys go gross, so we don't buy bath toys that can't "air-out" on their own anymore. The plastic boats are still okay in my mind. Funny what happens when somebody point out somethings we just weren't aware of. . .

If you're germaphobe (like me!) don't watch the one on your vacuum. I may have died a little inside!

On the squirt toys, if you regularly wash them out with some diluted bleach they stay fine...you just have to be consistent about it. Mine stay great when I do this!

Was that really one of your toys??!! I saw something similar a while ago and since then have only allowed cups and other very easy to sanitize things in the tub. Wow I don't know what else to say! Crazy gross.

We once squirted a toy at Carson and out came the sludge. After that I've been really leary of having any squirty toys in the tub. Pretty gross...especially since the point of a bath is to get clean! BTW, super cute shamrocks on your front door.

Natsy!!! That totally grossed me out! I will totally have to be more conscious of what I let my boys use.

I am a mean mom because toys don't go in the tub. As soon as I saw one of our own squirty toys squirt black crap (I can't think of a better word, sorry), I threw them all away. The only thing that goes in the tub these days is a boat that doesn't have any holes in it at all. And I have to say that I am gratful that I have never had to pull a "log" out of the tub. EVER. So grateful.

I noticed the grossness once and threw them all out. Ross was not very happy with me. In my defense, I did try the clorox thing first, but I still saw the sludge and so out they went.
