I spent an hour coloring this afternoon....while my kids fought over crayons and another coloring book.
I'm the kind of mom who needs her own book and own box of crayons, because now they're all dull, and mostly broken in half. *sigh*
What's the world coming to?
My children have no hope of doing their own Idaho history project, earning their Eagle, or even picking up their toys.
Hopefully I learn quick and let them learn how to be boys and how to color, and how to craft, and how to be prepared.
This morning I asked Tanner to go and make his bed. His reply: "I can't mom. I just a widdle boy." So I helped him make his bed. Then I asked him to help me pick up his toys. His reply: "I can't mom. I don't know how. I just a widdle boy."
Looks like I have some work to do! What's the world coming to?
A wise woman once told me that it's easier to teach them to do their chores than to do them for them...even though I'm the kind of person who thinks, "gosh...this would be so much easier if I did it, and I'll do it right".

at first it is harder to teach them--especially when you want it done "exactly right." but, it is so exciting when they can do it themselves...and the pride they have in doing it!
I have the exact same problem. I used to make Kaden clean up his toys before bedtime, but now I just put him to bed and do it myself. I am much faster anyway...
Oh it is so hard to find a balance. I finally had to let go. I figured out some chores that he could do every day and every week that he could do his way and not mine and it wouldn't drive me crazy to see them done wrong. You will figure it out. Parker is 8 and just barely getting good at chores. Give it time!
I agree with you. It is so much easier (and takes SOOO much less time) if I do it myself. And, like you, I am anal with where things go. However, Anna 'usually' loved to help make bed and what not. But when it comes to cleaning up her toys when I tell her to she always says, 'but mom, it will take forever!' The stinker. Oh well. It's consistency that counts, right?!
Oh my I agree! I do the same thing! It is so hard to know when to just do it or when to back up and let it just be. So when you figure it out let me know!!!
I always tell people our how is a house of learing so don't look to closely as Xan is an expert helper when it comes to cleaning but he is an expert 6 year old cleaner and he does what he can but that is all that we ask and he loves it! Well i should say he loves the accomplishment of seeing what he does and even Ryker is starting to catch the bug!
